Many of the products that are sold are very similar, so it goes to question: does it really matter which one you use?
The answer is, of course it does!
Take for example: Stirmox E, Stirmox M and Stirmox L. All of these products are Amine Oxides but they act differently in solutions. Stirmox M can be used to increase viscosity to obtain a nice thick solution. It can also increase the foam profile of the solution, whereas if you want a product that is thinner and less foamy, Stirmox E is a better choice for you. They are also made of different amines which affects their action slightly. See the below Venn diagram for a laid out version of the differences:
